My Approach
For individual therapy, I use a combination of person-centered, ACT, and IFS approaches
-
Person-centered therapy focuses on what you, the client, want help with. The therapist has no personal agenda, does not bring judgement to your issues or coping methods, and aims to help you build your life in whatever way personally suits you best. As a person-centered therapist, I will offer suggestions and ideas at times, but I won’t be telling you what to do.

IFS treats our mind as a constellation of different parts of ourselves instead of just one big piece. It can help you better understand parts of yourself that are hindering you, or even harming you, and learn what they are trying to protect you from when they make you defensive, avoidant, anxious, and so on. This approach asserts that there are no bad parts of you, only parts that are stuck in outdated roles in your mind doing the best they can to help you.
I will help you treat your parts more kindly and unburden them from the pain you carry.

ACT focuses on two main aspects: acceptance of your thoughts and feelings, and commitment to the values that you hold. Accepting your emotions does not have to mean liking them, but it does mean you stop denying them as valid responses to situations - and in doing so, you allow yourself to feel them, let them pass, and continue with your life. Our life feels most satisfying when we are living in line with our values, even in the face of pain and adversity. However, we may not know what matters most to us, or have had to put aside certain values to function in work or a relationship.
As an ACT therapist, I will do my best to help you learn to accept all of the emotions you feel as well as review how closely you are living in line with your values.

For couples therapy, I use a combination of
EFT and RLT approaches
-
EFT aims to help couples communicate their deeper feelings and show greater vulnerability to each other. In doing so, couples learn the patterns or dances they end up stuck in, and discover how to shift into new patterns that work better for them. If you or your partner struggle with an attachment wound, or struggle to understand each other’s feelings and reactions, EFT is likely a good fit.

RLT uses multiple perspectives to understand each client and their relationship to each other in order to compassionately confront how each client is harming their relationship. RLT tends to involve trauma processing and inner child work in the presence of the partner, re-establishing them as a safe anchor, and then teaching the skills that preserve and strengthen intimate connections. If you or your partner have a hard time with accountability, trust, or childhood trauma, RLT may be what makes a difference in your relationship.

I understand that taking the first step towards therapy can be both courageous and daunting. Even if your head says it’s the right choice, it can be difficult for your heart to choose to be vulnerable and face what you used to avoid.
